Teach the Future
Teaching Toolkits
Teach the Future was established in 2013 by Professor Peter Bishop who first developed the Foresight programme at Houston University more than 30 years ago. The Teach the Future programmes and materials is based on the same pedagogical foundation as the Houston Framework.
We want to assist educators to prepare students to deal with uncertain and ever-changing futures. Foresight instruction and futures thinking are critical for educators, yet there is a lack of tools, teaching materials, and general guidance for teachers and schools.
What is in Toolkit 1?
Each video lesson has its own (printable) activity sheets. The videos total about 90 minutes in total and the time allocated to activities, is about two (2) hours per video lesson.
Futures consciousness is the human capacity to understand, anticipate, prepare for, and embrace the future. When integrating futures thinking in the classroom, it's important to assess and measure how futures consciousness evolve and change over time as a result of students’ learning experiences. Teach the Future in partnership with researchers at the Finland Futures Research Centre (University of Turku) and University of Geneva have developed a youth version of the already published Futures consciousness Scale (FCS) for adults.
When integrating futures thinking in the classroom, it can be important to assess and measure how students' futures consciousness evolves and changes over time because of their learning experiences.
-
You can test your students before embarking on their video and activity journey and we will send you a report of their collective rating.
-
Once you complete the video lessons and activities, test them again and compare their results.
-
The video lessons and activities will assist students in understanding the various aspects of futures and the areas tested with the FCS.
-
The FCS is most effective if used per class or workshop of similar age learners.
-
The FCS can be done before starting the video lessons and activities to establish the baseline understanding of the learning. Once completed, the educator will receive a report with the learners’ results.
-
At the end of the lessons and activities, educators might choose to do the FCS again, to test the learners’ understanding of Foresight. A 2nd report can be generated and sent to educators, at no cost.
Once purchased, educators are welcome to access the FCS again for a different class or workshop. A $10 payment for administration will be levied.

Foresight instruction and futures thinking are critical for educators, yet there is a lack of tools, teaching materials, and general guidance for teachers and schools. The recorded lessons will serve as helpful tools in the hands of foresight educators worldwide. Preview a sample video lesson.
